IDEAS TO TRY

The above examples of creation spaces take a great deal of time and planning.

• A simpler way to build a creation space would be to develop a site in your library that focuses on problem-solving. Identify a community or library problem. Provide sticky notes for the community to respond to the question. Change the query every week. The responses will become a source of interest to your community, and because they change consistently, they will help keep the library space fresh and interesting.

• Another experiment would be to have a community art space in the library. This could be as small as a table with one or two chairs. Every week you could provide a simple art project for people to work on. Ask people to leave their creation behind as part of the community project. Again, regular change in a space is fun, creative, and invigorating, as well as great for community building.
